“Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgment that something else is more important than fear. “ - Ambrose Redmoon

Last Friday I gave a eulogy at my father’s funeral. Although I am not unfamiliar with public speaking, getting up to share personal feelings at an already emotional time was not something I had done before. Needless to say my knees were trembling.

But as I got up to the podium, heart in my throat with shaking knees, I remembered something I had heard Warren Buffet say about his intense fear of public speaking. Back in the 1950s with the help of a Dale Carnegie course, Buffet learned how to manage his fear - not by trying to stop his knees from shaking but by learning how to calmly speak in spite of them shaking.

That sounded like good advice to me and you know what? It worked.

Later when people told me how calm I looked I was a little surprised. You see, like Buffet, there was something more important than the shaking knees at stake. For me, it was paying tribute to my father in a loving and dignified way. That was more important than the fear. And it enabled me to appear calm and relaxed. Because I believed I could do it, I did it in spite of the fear. That’s courage. And because I’m following my own advice about being kind to myself, I’m saying, “Good on ya blyssmama – you did it!”

So today as you face your own scary challenge, whatever it might be, don’t be afraid to walk into the fire. Scary is good. It keeps us alive and reminds us of what we can do in spite of the shaking knees. Be brave my lovely blyssbeing. You’re not alone.

Love from your blyssmama!

P.S. I am so excited to tell you about some great new products we will have at the Market starting this weekend. We have a fantastic line of gluten free soup and salad kits made by a great company from Surrey, BC called Simply Delish Soup & Salad Co. They are beautifully packaged and reasonably priced at $7 each or 3 for $20. In fact I have some cooking right now in my crock pot and am looking forward to a yummy dinner tonight! See you at the Market where you can select your own!
